Origin of Tennis Bracelets

January 18th, 2011

Have you heard about tennis bracelets? No, it’s not that stretchable and flexible band worn in a tennis tournament but it is a bracelet made of tiny diamonds or precious gems. So how did the diamond tennis bracelet originate? The unusual name came from an incident involving professional tennis player Chris Evert during a match in 1987. Evert had been wearing an expensive bracelet featuring an inline string of individually-set diamonds. When the clasp snapped, she asked the officials to stop the match until the jewelry could be found. Since that very day, bracelets featuring inline array of diamonds have been called Tennis Bracelets.
